I don't know if my form is good, but I'm at least doing all the cues that good form videos say to use.
since shelter in place (march) i'd been experiencing the haven't-exercised-and-so-tight-i-can't-move thing that plagues me. i've been plagued by it for years, really, and the thing that makes it go away most effectively appears to be pulling exercises (rock climbing is my favorite, but other things work), followed by any exercise.
march-september were awful, because in my apartment, i couldn't do any exercise. as soon as i knew we were moving, i got in on the waitlist for a rowing machine, which was two months long, but finally got it and i'm so much less sore. i can turn my head in both directions! amazing.
i'm trying to figure out how much i need to harsh my roll, because by last week thursday (10th) i had pulled a muscle in my leg (faintest pain on monday 14th, no notice at all today 16th)... and last night i slept on my arm funny - i remember waking up in the middle of the night with my arm so thoroughly numb that not only did i have to lift it with my other hand, but i couldn't find the damn thing because it wasn't reporting any sense data - so it twinged at me during today's session.
for lack of a better goal at the moment, trying to do longer and farther each time; i'll deal with intensity later. i guess i should pick a goal time/distance? starting with 3 days a week, but i think it might be best to work up to doing it every weekday.
there's eight thousand other things i want to do, too! i want to bike! i want to swim! i want to run! i want to boulder! i want to lift! i want to do cool bodyweight things like handstands!
... but like, idk. they're all inefficient at converting time&money -> thing i want to do. if i spend 45 minutes a day, i can do 30 minutes of rowing (and then 15 minutes of overhead: change clothes, shower)
and that hasn't been true of the other things. bouldering, before, had over an hour of overhead - just getting there and back was 30 minutes each way. lifting at gym had 40 minutes of overhead but was hugely variable because of transit, etc. biking is almost as low overhead as rowing, except that the first and last 5-10 miles of every ride kinda suck.
(running? my ankles are trashy. i've worked on it some, but...)
also like, lol @ going to a gym right now.
the one problem is that the damn thing takes up SO MUCH SPACE in the dining room. eventually, going to make the garage pleasant enough to be in that we can work out from there.
... but that's a lot of work, i think. off the top of my head: all the weird shelving it came with needs to get removed; it'd be nice to put up something over the walls so they aren't icky grody wood; if we're going to cover up the walls maybe we should insulate them?; lighting; gotta fix the messed up power supply...
i guess i could get started by going out there and taking a look at how the shelving is attached.
